Eight Year, Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky Reading Campaign Kicks-Off August 27 

ReadOn! to boost 3rd Grade-Level Reading


Who: School students, families, local business, community and education leaders.


What: Official launch of a multi-year campaign to raise 3rd grade reading level in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky led by the Strive Partnership, Northern Kentucky Education Council and Success By 6©. 


Why: Early reading success is one of the most critical factors of future academic success. Students who are not reading at grade level by the end of 3rd grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school. The Read On! campaign involves more than 70 partners working in seven counties and 19 school districts in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. The partners will target improvements in three strategic areas that have a proven impact on 3rd grade reading success: Attendance, Summer Learning and Kindergarten Readiness.


When:            Tuesday, August 27

                        Event runs 10:30-Noon, highlights include:

                        10:45 – PBS Super Why character reading activity and sing-along with students

                        11:10 – Campaign update from co-chairs:

                                -Dr. Santa Ono, president, University of Cincinnati
                                -Brent Cooper, president, C-Forward, Inc., based in Northern Kentucky

                        11: 50 - Exhibits by campaign community partners
